Accessibility

This website

The site is plain server-rendered HTML with almost no JavaScript. It uses semantic headings and landmarks, works at any zoom level, respects your system's light or dark preference, and can be operated entirely from a keyboard. Nothing is hidden behind a hover, and there are no modals, interstitials or timed interactions anywhere between you and a file.

We aim at WCAG 2.2 AA for the site itself. If something falls short, please tell us.

The EPUB files

This is the honest part. Accessibility varies by edition, and we do not control it. These files come from many sources and many decades, and their internal quality is uneven. Some have a proper document structure, real headings, and marked-up language changes; others are little more than a wrapper around a plain transcription.

Where we know an edition's accessibility conformance, we will state it on that edition. Where we do not, we would rather say nothing than claim something we have not checked. Recording per-edition accessibility metadata properly is planned work, not finished work.

If a particular document is unusable with your reader or assistive technology, write to rights@catholicpubs.com and say which one. That is genuinely useful and we would rather know.
